To the Editor;

Having read the article regarding the renaming a street in New Glasgow to Reddick Lane in the June 30 edition (my sister subscribes), my curiosity was piqued.

I grew up in the Town of Trenton and my grandfather was Fred Reddick. He was born in Tracadie in 1872 and came to Trenton in 1880. I am curious to know if he was related to Joseph Reddick. Like Joseph, he was a landowner who not only owned his own property, but a few others as well, which he rented to his daughter and to white families. This was almost unheard of when I was growing up in the ‘40s and ‘50s.

As children, we were told that he was not allowed to rent to Blacks as “they” did not want any more in the town.

Fred had a sister, Blanche, and perhaps one named Laura. Laura was an aunt to my father but I’m not sure if she was sister to Fred or his wife, Sarah. I would appreciate any information and can be reached at ireddick@gmail.com. Thank you.
