Cindy Swinamer is overjoyed with her early birthday present.

The New Glasgow resident was able to take home a new red 2022 Honda Civic Sedan Touring she won during a recent Blue Jays Honda Canada Day Car giveaway hosted by the carmaker and the Major League baseball team. The event took place on July 20 at Ceilidh Honda in New Glasgow.

It’s her first new car and she really likes its sun roof.

“They called me near the end of June and told me I was a finalist,” said Swinamer, whose birthday was last Saturday. “Then they did a Zoom call and told me I actually won. It’s great. It’s humbling. I’ve driven (Hondas) and they’re very comfortable. I was considering a new vehicle anyway.”

The contest had some caveats. It was open to legal residents of Canada, exclusive of Quebec, who were at least the average age of most of the residents in the province or territory where they live.

Contestants also had to submit a maximum 50-word description stating why they liked the contest.

“Honda Canada partners with the Blue Jays and the dealer where the winning resident lives awards the car,” Ceilidh Honda general manager John Whidden said. It’s the second vehicle for the dealership, which previously awarded one in 2016.

“It’s not very often we get to do it, but it’s nice to give them a call and brighten up their day,” he said. “It couldn’t happen to a nicer person at a better time. The staff had fun with it too. It’s one of those things you never forget.”
