A simple change is leading to big things for a New Glasgow couple.
Allyson and Lawrence Crosby claimed their $1-million Maxmillions prize from the Lotto Max draw on June 8.
The couple has a set routine when it comes to purchasing lottery tickets, one they rarely deviate from. But one particular day paid off for the couple.
“We play pretty regularly, we pick up our tickets at a particular time and store each week,” Allyson said in a press release issued by the ALC. “Lawrence was off that day though and went fishing, so he stopped at a store that we don’t usually buy at to get an extra ticket, since we knew the jackpot was growing so much.”
When the Lotto Max jackpot reaches $50 million, additional $1-million prizes are drawn.
It wasn't until two days after the draw that Lawrence realized what he was carrying in his wallet.
“I called Allyson and told her I think we won, but I wasn’t sure because I didn’t have my glasses on,” Lawrence said. “So, I finally went out to get my glasses and sure enough the numbers were all there.”
Other than a new truck and car, the couple hasn't decided on where else to spend their winnings.
“It’s just so much to think about,” Allyson said. “We’re thinking about some travel but that’s down the road, maybe visit Disney World.”
The couple still works - Lawrence is a carpenter while Allyson is an educational assistant - and they have no retirement plans just yet.
The Crosbys’ Maxmillions winning Lotto Max ticket was purchased at Alma Pizza & Variety. The retailer will receive a one per cent seller’s prize.
