Incumbent MP Sean Fraser announced that he is seeking re-election in Central Nova.

Fraser is the current Central Nova MP and the Parliamentary Secretary to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Middle Class Prosperity and Associate Minister of Finance.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with Governor General Mary Simon to dissolve Parliament and set Sept. 20 as the date for the election.

“This election is important,” he said in an emailed statement. “The choices we make to help finish the fight against COVID-19 and how we shape the recovery will have lasting effects on our country and our communities for a generation or more. I want to help build a recovery that creates jobs at home, protects our environment, and ensures our economy works for everyone and not just the wealthiest members of society. I’m running again to help move our country and our communities forward, for everyone.”

Fraser was first elected in 2015 and prior to his current parliamentary secretary portfolio, he was the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Environment and Climate Change Canada.

Fraser has become known as one of the core members of Prime Minister Trudeau’s COVID-19 recovery team, and has helped to shape policies like CERB, CRB, the wage subsidy, and many other income and tax relief measures to help individual Canadians and businesses financially navigate the pandemic.

He has also been advocating for the region and government policies as the government representative in Question Period. Earlier this year, he was named Best Orator for this work as part of the MacLean’s Magazine Parliamentarian of the Year Awards.
