Aaron MacDonald scored the only goal the Trenton Steelers needed to edge Whycocomagh 1-0 Sunday in the Atom B Division championship game during the 33rd annual Trenton March Break minor hockey tournament. In earlier action Saturday, Logan Malcolm scored one goal and assisted on the other by Isaac Koehoorn as the Steelers tied Whycocomagh 2-2. Andrew LeBlanc scored for the Steelers in a 1-1 tie Sunday against the Tatamagouche Titans. Cameron Matheson tallied for Tatamagouche. Trenton advanced to the final when Malcolm scored three goals as the Steelers topped Tatamagouche 6-2. MacDonald, LeBlanc and Michael Trefry also scored for Trenton. In the Atom Rec Division, the Truro Bearcats shut out Trenton 8-0 Sunday in the championship game. The Steelers opened the tournament Saturday with a 5-3 victory over the Pictou Maripacs on Ben Turnbull’s three goals and two more by Spencer Murray. Truro won its other games 9-0 over Pictou and 8-1 over Trenton. Murray scored Trenton’s lone goal against the Bearcats. Turnbull and Murray each scored in Trenton’s 2-1 victory over West Hants. Munroe MacKay scored for Pictou in an 8-1 setback against West Hants. Action continues this week in the Bantam and Peewee divisions and concludes Saturday with Novice Division games.
