County gets set to host Mustangs

NEW GLASGOW – The Pictou County Weeks Major Midgets will host the South Shore Mustangs this weekend in two Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League games.
The teams will meet at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday at the John Brother MacDonald Stadium.
Pictou County stands fifth in the league standings, while the Mustangs are seventh.
The locals are 3-6 after splitting two games against the Dartmouth Taylor Flooring Major Midgets last weekend.
Goaltender Doiron of Antigonish was outstanding in Pictou County’s 3-2 victory over the Crushers Saturday in New Glasgow.
Goals by Lane Cormier and Jarvis Mattatall late in the second period lifted Pictou County into a 3-2 lead and they made the margin stand for the remainder of the game.
Dartmouth outshot Pictou County 38-18 in the game.
Sunday’s game was a different story as Dartmouth prevailed 8-1 while outshooting Pictou County 58-16.
Dartmouth was already leading 7-0 before Lucas Holman tallied Pictou County’s lone goal.
Pictou County’s Mark Vokey is tied for fourth place in the league’s individual scoring race with seven goals and seven assists.
Teammates Cole Livingstone and Darryl Wheadon each have four goals and five assists.
Pictou County will next host Cole Harbour Oct. 27 and the Valley Wildcats Oct. 28.
