Cape Breton Regional Police have arrested a 77-year-old female in connection to a suspected attempted murder.
The arrest comes as a result into the investigation of a well-being check on a 75-year-old New Glasgow male, who was admitted to the North Sydney General Hospital. Police were initially called to the hospital Sunday morning, September 30th, as a result of suspicion around the man’s illness. Further investigation led police to believe the man’s spouse matches the identity of a woman with a previous criminal history of fraud and manslaughter charges, and that she could be responsible for this man’s illness.
In consultation with the Crown Prosecutor, police obtained a warrant for the women’s arrest, and a search warrant for her residence in New Glasgow, where police arrested her without incident. Cape Breton Regional Police thank members of the New Glasgow Police Department and RCMP for their assistance.
Police are transporting the suspect back to Cape Breton; members of the Major Crime Unit continue to investigate and further details will be released as they become available.
