ABERCROMBIE – Organizers are already trying to make sure next year’s annual Ship Hector Classic golf scramble at the Abercrombie Country Club is an even more rewarding one than this year’s was.
“It was a fabulous day, what with the ideal weather, and I think people enjoyed themselves,” said Laurie MacDonald, who is president of the Ship Hector Foundation under whose auspices the event is played.
“We’ll keep trying to improve and get more people building it up.”
MacDonald announced that the event has already been booked with the club on Sept. 13, 2013.
This year’s event attracted 18 teams and was won by the team consisting of Glen Joudrie, Andrew Landry, Doug Carter and Steve Buck.
Organizers were hoping to raise nearly $20,000 from registration and sponsorships, with proceeds, still being tabulated, to go to the maintenance of the Ship Hector replica that is moored at the Hector heritage Quay in Pictou.
As in past years, the ship was the venue for a pre-tournament reception Thursday, featuring music and refreshment before the nearly five hours of golf Friday.
