Hawboldt/Lays road races set to go Sept. 3

WESTVILLE – The annual Jimmy Hawboldt/Fred Lays, Sr. Memorial Road Races will take place on Labour Day.
As in past years, there will be one-mile and five-mile races.
Medals will be awarded in the male and female divisions in six categories: Golden Master (60 years and older), Senior Master (50-59 years), Master (40-49 years), 20 Something (20-39 years), Junior (13-19 years) and Novice (12 and under).
Registration for the races is at the Westville Civic Building (2042 Queen Street) beginning at 9 a.m. on Labour Day.
The one-mile race starts at 9:30- a.m. at 2111 Queen St., down the street and right to Drummond Road, right onto Foxbrook Road, right onto Park Street and right along Queen Street to the finish in front of the civic building.
The five-mile race starts in front of the civic building and proceeds right on Drummond Road, left on Temperance Street, left on North Main Street with a water station at Holy Name parking lot, up Main Street, right to Church Street, left onto South Main Street with a water station in front of Highland Consolidated Middle School, right onto Drummond Road and right at Queen Street to the finish line in front of the civic building.
There will also be a Children’s Fun Run across from the civic building at Victoria Park.
Registration for the Fun Run will be held at 9:30 in Victoria Park with races at 10:00 am.
The event is sponsored by Westville Recreation. There is no registration fee. Refreshments, medals and prizes will be presented in the civic building’s multi-purpose room.
