County wins second straight game

NEW GLASGOW – The Pictou County Senior Rugby Club dominated the Caledonia side from Cape Breton by a 117-5 margin in a Division II Rugby Nova Scotia match Saturday at the Scott Weeks Parkdale Sports complex.
Pictou County headed in to last Sunday’s schedule match against the Halifax Tars with a 4-3 record so far this season.
The win improved Pictou County’s record to 6-3 and followed a 36-22 victory over the Halifax Tars Aug. 19 in New Glasgow.
They entered the weekend in fifth place behind the Truro Saints, P.E.I. Mudmen, Valley Bulldogs and Windsor.
To that point, Pictou County recorded 26 tries, 15 converts and 10 penalty kicks. They added six tries and three converts against the Tars.
Its games include a 57-20 thrashing of the host Windsor Warriors in its previous encounter Aug. 11.
The side opened June 2 with a 26-15 win over the Eastern Shore club and topped the Valley Bulldogs 37-29 at home on June 23.
Pictou County lost three games in July by scores of 38-3 to the P.E.I. Mudmen July 7, 38-12 to the Truro Saints July 10 and 28-26 to the Halifax Rugby Club July 21.
The County’s other win in August was by a 29-0 margin over the Riverlake Ramblers Aug. 4.
