Jubilee offering Youth Songwriting & Performance Workshop

Posted on July 19, 2012

NEW GLASGOW – The 2012 Jubilee Songwriter Workshop for Youth is a great opportunity for budding songwriters and performers in Pictou County to learn real-world skills from award-winning performing songwriter Carmel Mikol.
The interactive Workshop covers lyric and melody structure, dynamics and editing as well as live on-stage performance technique. In addition, two participants from the workshop will be invited to perform along side Carmel Mikol, Tim Chaisson, and Slowcoaster’s Steven MacDougall at the Jubilee Songwriters Circle on August 4 as part of the New Glasgow Riverfront Jubilee.
“We have a rich heritage of great songwriters here in Nova Scotia,” says workshop host Carmel Mikol. “And it’s more important than ever to foster that talent in our young writers. The direction and validation these workshops offer sometimes make the difference, encouraging a kid to stick with their music and end up making a real contribution to the arts down the road.”
The workshop will take place on Saturday, July 28, from 1 to 4 p..m at the Celtic Circle in New Glasgow. It is open to youth grades 7 through 12 at a cost of $20 per person. Registration is required.
To register go to http://www.carmelmikol.com/workshops or call 752-4800.
