Albions win Midget AA tourney

STELLARTON – The Pictou County M.D. Holmes Trucking Ltd., Midget AA Albions brought home the gold from the annual Bedford Days midget baseball tournament held this past weekend in Bedford.
The Albions went 2-1 through round-robin play to finish first in their division.
They began by defeating host Tri County Rangers 4-3.
Starting pitcher Nathan Furler went the distance for the win.
Layne Conway drove in the game-winning run, while Colten Green added two hits.
The Albions lost their second game 10-0 to North Kings. Tyler Chisholm suffered the loss, while Green and Lukas MacDonald each had a hit.
Lukas Gulliver got the win despite losing his bid for a perfect game in the seventh inning. The Albions defeated Halifax 6-3.
Chisholm and Corey Fraser each had two hits.
In a spectacular 1-0 win in the semifinals over Tri County, Riley Bennett was hit with a pitch with the bases loaded in extra innings and scored the winning run to send the Albions to the final. Corey Baird was the winning pitcher and Tommy Hayman collected two hits.
In the championship game, the Albions struck for eight runs in the first inning to go on to a 14-0 win over Hammonds Plains.
Brandon MacDonald got the win on the mound, with Brandon Heighton coming on to close. MacDonald led the offence with two hits.
The Albions will travel to Fredericton at the end of the month to compete in an Atlantic tournament.
