WESTVILLE – Nearly 40 teams combined to raise almost $16,000 Friday at the 2012 Westville Curl for Cancer at the Westville Curling Club.
Draws began at 6 p.m. and ended with a 10 p.m. draw as unofficial figures put total funds raised at $15,805. That’s down from the more than $18,000 raised by 48 teams.
“You couldn’t find a better place to curl,” said Stephanie Fortune, one of the 150 curlers who took part in the event, “I love every minute of it.”
While the total raise was down, organizers were happy with the curling and camaraderie that continues to flavour the cause to raise funds for cancer research with curling events.
“It was a good meet,” said Tim Chislett, who with his wife Darlene is among the organizers of the Westville event.
Pictou’s annual Curl for Cancer event is slated to go Friday starting at 5:30 p.m. with draws every half hour.
