To the Editor:
Dear Mr. Mongraw, Vice President, Corporate Services Pictou County Health Authority: It has come to our attention after reading your letter to the editor in the news recently ,that there will be a change in delivery of food services to the veterans and residents of the Munro Wing at the Sutherland Harris Hospital in Pictou.
The veterans are held in very high esteem by members of the Knights of Columbus and we would want them treated fairly with the utmost respect and dignity.
To introduce changes to their dietary needs at this point of their lives in the hope of saving a few dollars from a very huge budget does not make a whole lot of sense.
The fact that there is only 20 of them is not going to be a significant change in savings for the health authority.
It would be interesting to calculate the saving per meals per day with the present system and compare to the new system that is being proposed. I suspect that the daily cost in savings would be minimal percentage of your budget for these twenty veterans.
I wonder if anyone within your department has taken the time to visit with the veterans, and for those that are able to speak to you, ask them their opinion.
These are individuals who have defended their country and are now at a point in their lives where they are least able to fend for themselves.
We wish you would treat them with the utmost dignity and respect that they deserve.
