To the Editor:
Last night I went to a concert at Glasgow Square, yes it was indoors. It was a fund raiser for Roots For Youth. I was a youth once and I see this as a mandatory project. Bless the people who have put in countless hours to make it happen. Yes we are all uncool over-the-hill old folks, but we were all kids, and yes we were all in trouble. That too is mandatory. A passage in life that we all have to traverse without killing ourselves and find our way to a somewhat happy life.
The concert was over the top with talent. We have so much musical talent here that perhaps we take it for granted. There were 270 tickets for sale and if there were 60 people there the rest of you should feel shame. OK maybe you were involved with something Valentine oriented.
Unbelievable, was the first act – our own Beiber boy – Joel MacNeil who sang, I don’t remember the title, but it made me cry. That is not easy for a way post-menopausal woman. Jim Dorie was as entertaining as usual, and Molly Thomason out did herself with her song Julia.
The next round of music we all appreciated the content and poetry of her songs, Jakki Rogue and her delivery never fails us. Then Ian Sherwood gave us a Grammy performance. The young one Duncan Williams reminded me of Bob Dylan in stage presence and Basquait in cuteness. He will surely be another Pictou County music star who transcends his provincial beginnings. His songs were delightful and his teaser intros wonderfully aggravating, making his eventual starts a moment of relief – good tactics that make us appreciate his voice even more.
The North Nova Jazz Choir with Janice Alcorn, really people we are so blessed to have the Alcorns we should raise an outdoor sculpture to celebrate their accolades. What community has such educated talent teaching and producing so many future music stars?
And where were you?
