Linacy Greens course being put up for sale, but will open in 2012

LINACY – A local golf course may have a new owner when it opens for the 2012 golf season.
Linacy Greens owner Romeo Roy recently put the 18-hole course between Route 4 and Highway 104 up for sale, although he says he’s under no time line to sell it and may keep it if no one responds.
“If we sell it, we sell it, but if we don’t we’ll keep operating it,” he said.
Roy cited ill health and his business partner John Leung’s busy schedule for wanting to test the interest of prospective buyers, but he says he’s feeling well enough now to keep the club as it begins to start paying for its self.
That may be an attractive selling point, he said.
“We have so much money into it that we have to keep going,” he said. “We hope we’ll be in the black in a year of two.”
A fire in 2007 destroyed a warehouse, workshop and apartment and delayed hopes of the club breaking even sooner.
“It was insured but it didn’t cover everything,” he said.
The club celebrated its 10th year in 2011, although for some of that time it was a nine-hole course.
“It’s challenging enough, but it’s fairly easy if you manage the course well,” he said.
It’s signature hole is the short par 3 second hole that features an island green, but the par 3 13th whole requires a tee shot off the men’s tees over a large pond to the green.
Although the par 5 fifth hole is barely 400 yards, the 15th hole is 555 yards long uphill off the competitive tee.
