Students learned sarcasm from former teachers

Posted on February 8, 2012

To the Editor:
It has been 20 years since I wrote my first letter to the Pictou Advocate. I find myself again feeling the same disbelief.
The Advocate has printed a letter from a retired teacher and now another letter from a former teacher; I said then as well as now how sorry I am for the former students of these teachers. It is very concerning what these students have learned.
They must have learned how to be thin skinned and to react with anger, sarcasm and degrading remarks if, God forbid, anyone questions their positions.
I have had the unpleasant experience of knowing both of these former teachers. I consider them both to be bullies and their printed comments back up that feeling to quote “I can only assume my effort to poke fun was not received well.”
It is a well known fact that bullies can pass it out but are not very good at receiving.
A very wise man once told me about an old English saying: “There is many a true word spoken in jest.” These words ring true in their letters.
The former students lost a lot in their education. The citizens of Pictou are losing in thoughtful and now bias governing. If the job is to big…
To close I must say this is the way I see it and my thoughts so I can’t be wrong.
