Bowl for Kids striking up again

The season for giving and sharing is extending past Christmas as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Pictou County plans its annual Bowl For Kids Sake fundraiser.
Volunteers are always welcome.
“We can always use more volunteers,” says executive director Margie Grant-Walsh. “Whether it’s on the committee or the day of, there are always available volunteer opportunities.”
This year’s Bowl For Kids Sake will take place April 14 at the Heather Bowling Lanes in New Glasgow and will include other events such as the kick-off breakfast at the Nova Scotia Community College in February and the Wii Bowling in the schools.
The committee is currently working on garnering an honorary chair, last year was Justice Minister Ross Landry, as well as finalizing the theme.
“We are leaning toward a Hawaiian theme right now, but we haven’t officially decided,” says Grant-Walsh.
For those who don’t have the time to volunteer, entering a team in Bowl For Kids Sake is an option.
Teams of four or five raise funds before hand and choose a one-hour time slot between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. to come out and bowl.
“It’s as easy as that,” says Grant-Walsh.
Teams can sign up at any time.
“It’s a great way, in the spirit of giving, to enter a team in someone’s memory or raise funds instead of giving gifts to friends,” explains Grant-Walsh. “It’s a nice idea to gather together.”
Bowl For Kids Sake is one of the only local fundraisers to continue its success year after year.
“We continue to rely on the support and the generosity of Pictou County,” she explains. “They have supported this fundraiser for so long and I believe it is because of the nature of the fundraiser and the cause that draws people in year after year. And anyone can bowl, if you are in a wheelchair, if you are five years old, everyone can come out and bowl.”
